About the Role
Our Advisory Service volunteers are dedicated to providing mental health first aid to anyone going through a hard time, and to ensuring those who are looking for direction are able to make the best use of our signposting service to find and connect with the support they need.
Responsibilities
This role involves meeting with 2-4 people per month through our secure platform and providing lists of mental health resources to people based on the criteria people provide for what they’re seeking. Advisory Service volunteers listen with empathy and understanding and signpost people to appropriate resources and sources of support. They do not offer counselling or any form of therapeutic support or analysis. We look for volunteers who are kind, patient, personable, and reliable to fill this role, and who can demonstrate these qualities through past experiences, such as volunteering in peer support or listening services such as the Samaritans. Benefits of this role include Mental Health First Aid training, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults training, and the opportunity to advance one’s peer support skills. The time commitment is flexible, and volunteers have up to two weeks to provide each person they meet with a list of resources.
